LS2 Helmets
LS2 has been building motorcycle helmets since 1990 and is one of the world's largest helmet manufacturers, running out of Barcelona. That is how LS2 ships Bell-level protection at commuter prices. LS2 punches above its price across the range. We stock 28 LS2 lids: Storm II for daily commute, Advant X modular for tourers, Thunder Carbon for track, Pioneer II for budget adventure, and the Explorer for premium adventure. Every one is ECE 22.06 certified, the 2024 standard that is notably tougher than the 22.05 it replaced.
Shop by type: LS2 full face, LS2 modular, LS2 adventure, LS2 open face. Every helmet ships free Australia-wide over $200.
How to pick an LS2 helmet
LS2 runs a wider model catalogue than most brands, which makes the range confusing. In plain terms:
LS2 FF800 Storm II ($249-$329) is the entry full face. Kinetic Polymer Alloy shell, 1,580g, ECE 22.06, Pinlock 70 insert included. Use case: commuter, L/P rider, second lid. Trade-off: the KPA shell is 100g heavier than the fibreglass FF805 and the padding feels firmer out of the box (5-10 hours to break in).
LS2 FF805 Thunder Carbon ($549-$749) is the fibreglass track lid. Full carbon fibre shell, 1,295g, ECE 22.06, FIM Homologation on the Thunder Carbon GP variant. Use case: sport riders, track days. Trade-off: the carbon shell is stiff on bumps at low speed, the cheek pockets run tight compared to the Storm II.
LS2 FF901 Advant X ($449-$599) is the latest LS2 modular. Polycarbonate + fibreglass blend, 1,650g, ECE 22.06 with P/J rating (one of the few modulars impact-tested chin-closed AND chin-open). Use case: touring, ADV dual-use, riders who want both options. Trade-off: 150g heavier than a dedicated full face at the same price.
LS2 Pioneer II (MX436, $349-$449) is the value adventure lid. Kinetic Polymer Alloy shell with removable peak, ECE 22.06. Best budget ADV lid we stock. Use case: ADV riders on a commuter budget, dual-sport weekenders.
LS2 MX701 Explorer HPFC ($599-$799) is the premium adventure full face with removable peak. Fibreglass HPFC composite shell, 1,490g with peak, ECE 22.06. Use case: ADV riders running 3,000km+ tours, highway + off-road. Trade-off: the chin vent is less effective than a dedicated road lid at 110km/h+ highway speeds.
LS2 OF570 Verso ($199-$299) is the open face. ABS polycarbonate, 1,100g, ECE 22.06. Use case: cruisers, vintage bikes. Open face lids leave the chin and jaw exposed. Know what you are choosing.
What ECE 22.06 on an LS2 helmet actually protects
LS2 was one of the first global brands to ship a full ECE 22.06 range, with most SKUs re-certified during 2023-2024. That certification is what you are paying for. Short version:
22.06 is the current standard, replacing 22.05 from January 2024. It adds oblique impact testing (tested at multiple angles, not just straight vertical) and multi-point impact testing on the same shell. Those additions make it notably tougher to certify than the 22.05 it replaced.
AS/NZS 1698 vs ECE 22.06 in Australia. Both are legal. All Australian states and territories accept either certification. LS2 ships with the ECE 22.06 sticker for Australia. You do not need an AS/NZS 1698 sticker on a new LS2.
Our family's standard. Our family started Shark Leathers after Matthew crashed in 2007, at 19, and was left a quadriplegic. Nearly twenty years on, every lid we stock gets judged the same way. Would we put it on one of our own? LS2 clears that gate at prices that make ECE 22.06 protection accessible to riders on a commuter budget. Full story on our about page.

Frequently asked questions
Is LS2 a good helmet brand?
LS2 is owned by MHR in Barcelona and is one of the world's largest helmet manufacturers by volume. Every road LS2 sold in Australia carries ECE 22.06 certification, the same standard AGV, Bell, Airoh and Kabuto road lids meet. LS2 trades shell materials and finish detail for lower price, not safety compliance. Value for money is better than most.
Are LS2 helmets good for Australian summer?
The polycarbonate and KPA shells retain more heat than composite or carbon. The Storm II has a top vent that drops in-shell temperature around 3 degrees at highway speed. Below 40km/h in a Queensland summer you will feel it. If most of your riding is sub-40km/h stop-start, look at the FF901 Advant X modular (opens at lights) or an open face.
What is the difference between the LS2 FF800 Storm II and FF805 Thunder Carbon?
Shell and weight. The Storm II is Kinetic Polymer Alloy, 1,580g, $249. The Thunder Carbon is full carbon fibre, 1,295g, $549. Both are ECE 22.06. The Thunder feels lighter on your neck at 300km days. The Storm II is the better budget lid.
Pioneer II or Explorer for adventure riding?
Pioneer II if you want LS2 ADV protection on a commuter budget. Explorer HPFC if you run long tours with real off-road sections and want the composite shell and bigger eyeport. Price difference is around $250. Both are ECE 22.06, both take a peak, both accept goggles.
How does LS2 sizing compare to AGV or Bell?
LS2 shells run closer to AGV's intermediate oval fit than Bell's narrower shape. If your last AGV K3 fit well, try the same size in an LS2 Storm II first. If you were in a Bell Qualifier, try up half a size in LS2.
Can I get an LS2 helmet with Bluetooth already built in?
Yes. LS2 produces the Linkin Ride Pal III intercom module designed specifically for LS2 helmets including the Storm II, Advant X and Thunder. It fits the pre-cut cavity and runs on Bluetooth 5.0. If you want a third-party intercom, Cardo Packtalk Edge, Cardo Spirit HD and the SCS S7 Evo / S11 / S13 range all fit the standard 40mm speaker cutout.
How long does an LS2 helmet warranty last?
Two years against manufacturer defects on the shell and internals, from date of purchase. Liners and cheek pads are consumables and not covered. A crashed helmet is not covered under warranty (any brand, any crash). Keep your receipt. We process LS2 warranties through our Gold Coast warehouse for Australian buyers.
